Can My Parents Make Me Get an Abortion?

Posted by Lifetime Adoption on August 23, 2019

"I'm 15 and just found out that I'm pregnant. I'm not sure if I'm ready to be a mom, but I don't think I could go through with getting an abortion, either. My boyfriend and my friends tell me I'd be a great mom. My parents are furious and told me they made an appointment for an abortion. Can they make me get an abortion?"

No one can make you have an abortion if you don't want to. Unless you're in a medical emergency and your life is in danger, they can't force you to have an abortion. Medical providers can only perform abortions for women who've decided to have one. Plus, even though you're under 18, you have the right to make important choices about your health and life.

Think about what's best for your life right now. Becoming a mom because your friends think you should, or getting an abortion since your parents think you should might not be what's right for you. Sure, you may get advice from others around you, but only you can decide what's best for your situation.

Any woman who has an unplanned pregnancy has three choices. She can become a parent, get an abortion, or choose adoption for her baby. To decide between parenting, abortion, or adoption in teen pregnancy, you’ll first need to understand exactly what these options involve. Today, we're going over all three choices, so that you can best decide which is right for you!

Posted by Lifetime Adoption on August 9, 2019

"Abortion is quick and easy. A clean break. No one will even have to know I was pregnant."

Many believe that abortion is a quick fix for a pregnancy they didn't plan on. In reality, things are much more complicated. This "quick fix" can be followed by lifelong regret and grief.

Desperate for a "quick fix," women sometimes rush into an abortion decision before they've had the chance to explore all of their pregnancy options fully.

We encourage you to explore all of your options, so you can make a fully informed decision about what’s best for you. Before making this decision, it's important to consider some of the challenges of this option:

"Can I get money for adopting out my baby?"

Posted by Lifetime Adoption on March 8, 2019

“Can you get paid for adoption?”
“Do birth mothers get paid for adoption?”
“Can I get money for adopting out my baby?”

These are some questions about cost commonly asked by women considering adoption. The answer to all of them is “no.” Women don't get paid for making an adoption plan. It's illegal to trade a child for money.

However, you might be able to get help from the adoptive parents with the expenses during your pregnancy if it's allowable in your state. So, instead of receiving compensation for placing a child, a birth mother can receive financial assistance if her state laws allow.

Is Choosing Adoption for my Baby a Selfish Decision?

Posted by Lifetime Adoption on October 6, 2017

"I’ve heard from lots of people that adoption is a selfish decision and one that I'll regret for the rest of my life. Is that true?"

Not at all! In fact, choosing adoption is literally the opposite of selfish. Placing her baby with an adoptive family is one of the most courageous things a woman can do.

Depending on her life situation, choosing a family to provide for her baby in a way that she's unable is the best decision a birth mother can make for her child. She's putting the best interests of her child before her own and setting her needs to the side. Adoption doesn't mean abandoning her child – it means truly being a mother. It's a brave, strong, selfless, loving, and responsible decision to make when your baby needs it most.
