Adoption Q&A: What if I Change My Mind?

Posted by Lifetime Adoption on February 22, 2014

Question: What if I change my mind about doing adoption and decide I want to raise my child myself?

Answer: Before all forms are signed, you may change your mind. It's recommended that you make this decision sooner than later since the longer you wait, the harder it will be. For now, go slowly and take things one step at a time.

If you want counseling, be sure to call your Adoption Coordinator at 1-800-923-6784 and request it. Remember, there’s no cost to you. Counseling may help you clarify your feelings and just because you feel sorrow or guilt, it doesn’t mean that your decision to move forward with adoption was incorrect. This is a good time to evaluate if your living situation has changed. Consider what the reasons were that you chose adoption in the first place.
