Question: I've missed a period and I'm starting to freak out that I'm pregnant! I'm really struggling to make ends meet so I was thinking of just buying a pregnancy test at the dollar store to save money. Do you think that dollar store pregnancy tests are accurate?
Answer: Since all over-the-counter pregnancy tests use the same technology, they're all manufactured to the same standard. Think about when you buy generic medications; the brand-name meds have the exact same ingredients in them. Brand-name pregnancy tests that you find at grocery stores and drug stores will set you back $10 to $15. So, it’s silly to pay so much for them when you get a few at just a buck apiece!
Just make sure to read the info booklet that comes with your dollar store pregnancy test, to make sure you’re using it right. If you’re still not sure whether you’re pregnant after reading your result (OR if you got a positive), it’s time to schedule an appointment with your OB/GYN.
