Today, we're sharing the fifth part in Lifetime Adoption's new blog series, How to Be Successful in Domestic Infant Adoption. With this series, our mission is to assist you in learning how you can successfully adopt a baby with a shorter adoption wait!
If you've just started exploring infant adoption, you might be curious what it entails. Or, maybe you're in the adoption wait and would like to speed things up. In either case, this blog series full of tips on adoption is for you!
Here are the top 8 things that successful adoptive parents have in common:
- Their home study is current
- Profile has been completed
- Adoption preferences are open
- Don't turn down an adoption opportunity which is inside their preferences
- Have created an adoption video
- Prioritize their adoption
- Open to adopting a baby or child of either gender
- Attend Lifetime's webinars
If you missed it, our last installment in this blog series was about why you need to avoid declining an adoption opportunity which falls inside your preferences. Today, we're sharing about item #5, creating an adoption video.
We've found that in order to be successful, adoptive couples need to make an adoption video to present themselves to birth mothers. A paper profile and adoption website can only go so far in telling a birth mother what life would be like for her child with your family.
Videos about adoptive couples are really helpful for a birth mother to watch, because they give her a window into your lives. They give her a sense of your character and lifestyle. The video is able to talk directly to a birth mother about your values, and how you'd raise a child. Since her decision is such an emotional one, she'll be naturally drawn to families that represent the life she's seeking for her baby.
Lifetime has found that many birth mothers won't even consider a family without a video! For our contracted adoptive families, we provide one-on-one support in the creation of an adoption video. This includes step-by-step instructions and tips, along with a full review of your video and suggestions.
Stay tuned for part 6 of the 8-part blog series How to Be Successful in Domestic Infant Adoption! We'll be telling you about why it's important that you prioritize your adoption.
