Gathering Strength in Your Adoption Journey

christian_couple.jpgWhen things seem slow-in-coming with your adoption, gathering strength might feel challenging. Waiting to adopt can tax even a well-rooted faith; you may even question God’s presence or faithfulness at times. It may even feel like God has forgotten you. You may wonder if you’re even on track with His plan for your life.

On those dark days, don’t let go of promises God has given us! Allow yourself to grow stronger in faith as you give praise to God while waiting on His timing, remembering that God is able to do what he has promised, which is always for the good of those he calls. He hasn't forgotten you!

“Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living.” Psalm 27:13

Psalm 43 offers a brave and genuine prayer for anyone in a season of waiting:

“For you are God, my only safe haven. Why have you tossed me aside? Why must I wander around in grief..? Send out your light and your truth; let them guide me. Let them lead me…to the place where you live. There I will go to…God—the source of all my joy. I will praise you with my harp, O God, my God! Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise Him again—my Savior and my God!”

In Romans we’re reminded that Abraham, while he waited for God to fulfill a promise of a son, “grew strong in his faith” and we’re urged to walk in Abraham’s footsteps. “Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.” (Romans 4:20-21)

Even when the circumstances or evidence around you seem uncertain, remember those who came before us who also walked through the difficulty of waiting, who grew in faith and became a model of perseverance and praise. As you wait, allow your faith to grow a deep understanding of what it means to praise God at all times.

Here’s a prayer for adoptive parents-in-waiting:

“Lord God, thank you for remaining with me while I wait upon the next step in my adoption and for my family to grow through adoption. You have promised your love will never end and your mercies are new every morning—thank you! Great is your faithfulness to me! Help me experience your grace as I walk through the waiting with a growing faith. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
