Making An Adoption Decision

Posted by Lifetime Adoption on November 16, 2012

Q

How long can we expect to dialogue with a birth mother before she is ready to make a decision about us? A birth mother has called us twice and we are unsure if we should be excited or worried!

A

No one can tell you what emotion to experience. Here at Lifetime, we hope that you and your spouse will be joyful throughout the entire course of your experience with us. However, we understand just how much of a rollercoaster the adoption process can be.

Some birth mothers make a decision within ten minutes of talking on the phone with a family. Some wish to speak with a family several times before they are ready to commit. Still others, interview several families or express a desire to meet the families in person, before taking that all important step.

Our birth mother coordinators work closely with these women to help them reach a level of comfort with the whole process. Ultimately, this has to be something that the birth mother chooses and really wants for her baby. It has to be her choice, alone. Lifetime tries to tailor the experience to meet the needs of each individual woman.

Try to be patient with the woman that has contacted you. Let her take her time to reach a decision that is right for her. You will be happy you did. If this child is meant for you, then it will happen!
