How Much Does an Adoption Home Study Cost?

Posted by Lifetime Adoption on February 4, 2014

Home study fees can vary considerably, depending on the state where you live. A home study for independent adoption is normally less than one for an agency adoption and averages about $2,000 across the United States. Some states, like Texas, have more affordable home studies, while New England states often run higher than the average.

Most state or public adoption agencies charge a reduced or no-cost home study if you adopt a waiting child through their program. Some states allow private social workers, rather than social service department employees, to do home studies for non-agency adoptions. Many states offer home study services through their social service departments.
