Adoption Q&A: Can We Adopt if We Have Children Already?

Posted by Lifetime Adoption on August 14, 2014

Question: My husband and I have been researching domestic adoption because we’d like to expand our family (we already have a son and a daughter). Are we eligible to adopt with Lifetime?

Answer: Yes. Lifetime Adoption has received feedback from birth mothers who share that they’d prefer to place with adoptive couples who have less than three children currently (either biological or adopted). Since the birth parents choose the adoptive family for their child in the majority of our adoptions, families with three or less children do best in our program.

If you have many children or young children, it’s strongly recommended that you follow your Adoption Coordinator’s suggestions in regards to your adoption profiles. Lifetime has worked very closely with birth mothers since 1986, especially in finding out from them what they want to see in profiles of families. This is one of the reasons that Lifetime’s clients are more successful than those who go through other adoption professionals. So, you’re encouraged to be open to changes in your profile, especially as they relate to the children in your family.
