Infant adoption is a beautifully life-changing experience. In today's installment of our "Before You Adopt" series, we're sharing about another activity that you can do before you adopt: pamper yourself. Parenting will be an exciting (yet challenging!) adventure, so now's the perfect time to spoil, pamper, and indulge yourself. Finding the right pampering activity for you can really help lessen your adoption wait anxiety!
If your budget is tight right now, you might take a long, candlelit soak in the bathtub with soothing music or a good book. We encourage you to take a vacation with your spouse, if you can afford to. This "babymoon" might be the last child-free vacation you'll be able to take for awhile!
"When we were waiting to adopt, I was so stressed that we'd never be chosen! At work, at church, at home, where ever, I just couldn't keep my mind off worrying about our adoption. Finally, I found something that really helped me. Keeping a schedule of bi-weekly massages not only relaxed me, but it also allowed me to empty my mind of all my adoption worries," shares adoptive mom Jen, who adopted her baby boy through Lifetime last year.
Think about what would be the most optimal way for you to pamper yourself. For the fitness-oriented people out there, your pampering activity may be a nightly yoga class. Maybe your 9 to 5 involves sitting at a desk all day; consider getting acupuncture or a chiropractic adjustment. Here are some other ideas for pampering yourself:
- Get a manicure and pedicure with friends
- Try aromatherapy
- Indulge in a treat you don't usually buy
- Shop for some new clothes
- Get going with a hobby you enjoy
- Try meditating
