Is Choosing Adoption for my Baby a Selfish Decision?

Posted by Lifetime Adoption on October 6, 2017

is adoption selfish?"I’ve heard from lots of people that adoption is a selfish decision and one that I'll regret for the rest of my life. Is that true?"

Not at all! In fact, choosing adoption is literally the opposite of selfish. Placing her baby with an adoptive family is one of the most courageous things a woman can do.

Depending on her life situation, choosing a family to provide for her baby in a way that she's unable is the best decision a birth mother can make for her child. She's putting the best interests of her child before her own and setting her needs to the side. Adoption doesn't mean abandoning her child – it means truly being a mother. It's a brave, strong, selfless, loving, and responsible decision to make when your baby needs it most.

Just like any major life decision, adoption comes with lots of emotions. It's totally normal to question your thoughts and feelings during the process. After you select the adoptive family for your baby, you'll then create an adoption plan that meets your needs. Plus, with modern open adoption, you can make a plan that allows you to be in your child’s life in a way you feel comfortable.

Modern adoption plans put YOU in control of the process. Because of this, many birth mothers have told us that they felt confident in their decision, and had no regrets later in life. By knowing that she made a positive decision out of love and in the best interest of her child, birth mothers are better able to cope with their feelings and emotions.
