Does your baby's father want to stay in his child's life after the adoption happens? As one guy puts it, "My girlfriend thinks adoption is best for our baby, and she's probably right, but I still want to be a part of my child's life. I don't want to act like he never happened."
Today, we're talking about how your baby's father can be a part of making an adoption plan, and why it's beneficial to get him involved.
As modern, open adoption becomes more common and understood, more birth fathers are becoming part of the process. Oftentimes, when he knows that open adoption isn't only about you, he becomes more comfortable in supporting the adoption plan.
He can help choose your baby's adoptive parents, get to know them, and help create a plan for on-going contact, in the same way you can.
And, even if you choose not to stay in touch with the adoptive family after the adoption, he can still keep a connection open with his child's adoptive family, and his child. Many times a man may be more supportive of an adoption plan if he knows that he also can participate in the open adoption!
