A Greater Inheritance: A Christmas Message for Adoptive Parents

Posted by Mardie Caldwell on Dec 22, 2016 8:00:00 AM

Every Christmas a different aspect of the Christmas story stands out to me. This year, one part in the very beginning tugs on my heart and reminds me of the inheritance you’re already preparing for the child you will adopt.

I remember when I decided to adopt I had to accept that some things wouldn’t be handed down to my child. My mother’s eyes, my husband’s dimples, my grandmother’s cute little nose would not be inherited by the child we adopt. The dream of comparing family photos and figuring out who our baby most resembled was something I had to process as part of infertility, before I could fully embrace our adoption dream.

Adoption Stories Then and Now - Ross and Carol

Posted by Heidi Keefer on Dec 15, 2016 10:14:02 AM

Today, Lifetime Adoption is sharing yet another adoptive couple's story today in our blog series “Then and Now.” Our Lifetime adoptive family today is Ross and Carol from Nebraska.

As they started their adoption journey with Lifetime, they shared that they both came from large families and had always dreamt of filling their home with children. "Adoption is something that has been on our hearts for most of our lives, long before we ever knew each other. We have been struggling with infertility, and have decided lately that perhaps we should start investing our resources in adoption, rather than pursuing additional infertility treatments. After looking at some of your beautiful couples hoping to adopt on Lifetime's site, we thought 'we could do this!' While out on a walk that evening, I was praying about it, and all of the uncertainties kept popping up. A common fear was 'what if no one wants their child to grow up on a farm in the middle of Nebraska?!' I just kept praying, 'Father, I just need some direction here.' Long story short, later that evening, I was on your site again and saw one of the birth mother's descriptions, something about a Catholic couple who lives in a country setting. Needless to say, we felt like God was giving us a nudge!"

Signs You’re Ready to Turn to Adoption (Part 1)

Many couples undergoing fertility treatments wonder how they’ll know it's the right time to stop trying for a biological child and start the adoption process. It’s not a simple answer, and for every parent it is different.  In your marriage, you may find one spouse arrives at this place before the other, which is completely normal.

Turning the Bitter Into Blessings

Posted by Lifetime Adoption on Nov 14, 2016 9:50:12 AM

Adoption IS NOT a "cure" for the hurt and loss that comes with infertility or miscarriage. As one woman puts it, “I wish those watching us adopt could understand how much hurt and pain we have been through (with infertility and miscarriages), and that even though we are on the path to adoption, those aches aren’t automatically ‘cured.’”

So true. As this adoptive mom-in-waiting describes, an adoption is never intended to be a “fix all” for the loss that happened through infertility.

“Haven’t You Figured Out How to DO IT yet?” - My Infertility Story

Posted by Mardie Caldwell on Nov 3, 2016 12:20:22 PM

As the eldest of five children, I grew up with three brothers and one sister. Starting when I was young, I loved to help my mom out in caring for them. Watching children felt natural to me, and I knew that when I grew up, I wanted to be a mom. I enjoyed collecting baby clothes and blankets, and kept them stored away for the child I would have one day.
